Jaguar XK150 DHC 1959 - Video

The Jaguar XK150 is a sports car produced by Jaguar between 1957 and 1961. It replaced the XK140.

Initially it was available in Fixed Head Coupé (FHC) and Drophead Coupé (DHC) versions. The Roadster (XK150 OTS - Open Two-Seat) was launched in 1958. Minimal rear seats were fitted in the coupés.

Although bearing a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, the XK150 was radically revised. A one-piece windscreen replaced the split screen, and the wing line no longer dropped so deeply at the doors. The widened bonnet opened down to the wings, and on the Roadster the windscreen frame was moved back 4 inches (102 mm) to make the bonnet longer. The car was available at various times in Red, Pearl Grey, White, Indigo Blue, Claret, Cotswold Blue, Black, Mist Grey, Sherwood Green, Carmen Red, British Racing Green, Cornish Grey, and Imperial Maroon.

The XK140's walnut dashboard was replaced by one trimmed in leather. On the early Drophead Coupés, the aluminium centre dash panel, which was discontinued after June 1958, had an X pattern engraving similar to the early 3.8 E-type. Thinner doors gave more interior space. On the front parking lights, which were located atop the wings (fenders), a little red light reminded the driver the lights were on.

Suspension and chassis were very similar to the XK140, and steering was by rack and pinion; power steering was not offered. The standard engine, the similar to the XK140, but with an new "B" type cylinder head, was the 3.4 litre DOHC Jaguar straight-6 rated at 180 SAE bhp at 5750 rpm but most cars were fitted with the SE engine whose modified cylinder head (B type) and larger exhaust valves boosted the power to 210 SAE bhp at 5500 rpm. Twin 1.75-inch (44 mm) SU HD6 carburettors were fitted.

While the first XK150s were slower than their predecessors, the deficit was corrected in the spring of 1958 with a 3.4-litre "S" engine whose three 2-inch (51 mm) SU HD8 carburettors and straight-port cylinder head increased power to a claimed 250 SAE bhp.

For 1960, the 3.4 litre engine was bored to 3.8 litres, rating this option at 220 hp (164 kW; 223 PS) in standard tune or 265 hp (198 kW; 269 PS) in "S" form. A 3.8 litre 150S could top 135 mph (217 km/h) and go from 0–60 mph in around 7.0 seconds. Fuel economy was 18mpg. Four-wheel Dunlop 12 in (305 mm) disc brakes appeared for the first time although it was theoretically possible to order a car with drums. When leaving the factory the car originally fitted either 6.00 × 16 inch Dunlop Road Speed tyres as standard, or you could specify 185VR16 Pirelli Cinturato CA67 as a radial option on either 16 × 5K½ solid wheels (basic models) or 16 × 5K wire wheels.

Production ended in October 1960, and totalled 2265 Roadsters, 4445 Fixed Head Coupés and 2672 Drophead Coupés.

Waste Gate Turbocharger - Animation

A turbocharger is a turbine driven forced indication system. Which increases the efficiency of an internal combustion engine and power output by forcing extra air into the combustion chamber. So if you compare a naturally aspirated engine over a turbocharged engine, it is capable of forcing more air into the combustion chamber, there by capable of burning more fuel. The difference between turbocharger and supercharger is that, turbochargers are powered by turbines which gets its drive from the exhaust gas, while superchargers are mechanically driven by v- belt which is connected to the crank shaft. Other than turbochargers and superchargers there are twin turbo chargers, such engines have both turbochargers and superchargers.
The function of a waste gate valve in a turbocharger is to regulate the boost pressure at the turbocharger compressor outlet.

How engine oil filter bypass valve or safety valve works - Animation

This animation video explains about the working of an engine oil filter bypass valve, it can be also called as a safety valve.
As you can see in the above video and understand that the engine oil is stored in the engine oil sump; the oil pump sucks the oil and supplies it to the main oil gallery and different sections of the engine. Before its been supplied the oil gets cooled by the engine oil cooler and gets filtered. After it passes through the cooling galleries. But the path through which the oil passes to the filter, if the filter is blocked or chocked due to impurities it restricts the flow of oil to the galleries from the filter. This will result in oil starvation in the engine there by engine failure can occur due to overheating.

To avoid this engine oil filter bypass valve is used; it acts as a safety valve. Its working is explained very clearly in the above video. A valve is installed in the path of the oil flow to the filter from the cooler. If the filter is chocked, the pressure at this line increases and exceeds the cracking pressure of the valve and it opens to redirect the flow to the main gallery without filtration, thereby preventing the engine from major failure that can occur due to oil starvation.

Porsche 718 Boxster - Video

Porsche 718 Boxster

It may look pretty much the same as the old Boxster, but this new one – now called the 718 Boxster, supposedly in honour of the mid-engined, four-cylinder 718 of the early-Sixties - is actually a whole lot more than a mere facelift. And it’s all because of what’s under the bonnet (do mid-engined cars even have bonnets? Who knows…).
The sonorous flat-sixes of old have been trashed for a pair of all-new, quite parsimonious blown four-cylinder jobs, 2.0-litres in the standard 718 Boxster and 2.5-litres in the S. But what they lack in cubic capacity, they more than make up for with added oomph. A standard Boxster now makes 296bhp, where once it made 261, and the S has been upped to 345bhp from 311.
The result is we now have a Boxster – the entry-level Porsche, if you like – which is capable of 0-62mph in 4.7seconds. That’s 0.8secs quicker than the old car. The S can do it 4.2 seconds, so equipped with the PDK and Sport Chrono pack, a 0.6sec improvement on the car it replaces.
Here are some more numbers, for Porsche has provided many. A normal Boxster manages 170mph, has 74lb ft of torque more than it used to and, claims Porsche, does a little less than 41mpg – a 5.1mpg increase on the old car. Similarly, the S does 177mph, has 44lb ft of torque more than the old car and manages a combined 38.7mpg.

Brembo B-M8 - BREMBO LAUNCHES INNOVATIVE HIGH PERFORMANCE TRUCK AND SUV CALIPERS

Brembo, the world leader and acknowledged innovator of brake technology launches the B-M8, the all-new 8-piston caliper and its companion the B-M4 during the 2015 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, Las Vegas.

The Brembo B-M8 is an 8-piston monobloc caliper with four pads, suitable for rotors up to 420mm x 40mm (16.53” x 1.57”). This all-new caliper is specifically made for the front braking systems of trucks, SUVs and large high-performance sedans. As one of the largest calipers manufactured by Brembo, at 15.8 inches x 5.51 inches x 7.1 inches, the B-M8 required more than one thousand design hours, which included on-vehicle testing and casting technology development. The B-M8 is validated for torques up to 5700Nm (4204 lb ft).

BREMBO

The B-M8 is manufactured using a new, innovative 4D technology casting process, and is the first time this process has been used for automotive calipers. This casting process uses a technology that enables Brembo to engineer a design completely different from what is usually seen in the caliper market. With this technology, the casted caliper has technical features commonly used in racing billet or forged calipers. The B-M8 is casted with an internal fluid line versus the more conventional rigid pipe connections. The one non-visible bleeding screw allows for more safety and freedom in the design since it is better integrated into the overall design. The B-M8 is the most efficient body architecture and style and designed without constrains on the outboard caliper manufactured by traditional molds.

The B-M8 is available in four colors – red, yellow, black and new to the market white, with a few “optional” colors. The companion caliper, the B-M4, for rotors up to 380mm x 30 mm, is suitable for the rear braking systems of larger vehicles as well as front applications for smaller cars. The B-M8 and the B-M4 are ideal for a variety of trucks, SUVs, and sedans including, but not limited to Ford F-Series and Expedition, Dodge Ram, Toyota Tundra, Nissan Frontier, Land Rover Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz SUVs and Porsche Cayenne.

Brembo B-M8
This new caliper aligns with Brembo’s principles of developing new and innovative products with a designed flair. The B-M8 will not only provide superior stopping performance, but will also deliver a design aesthetic that fills the large wheel openings of today’s 22-inch truck and car wheels.  The company have taken its expertise in the motorsports world and applied it to large truck and SUV braking systems to create one of the largest and best looking calipers in the Brembo line.

Developed to increase overall braking performance, the B-M8 exhibits consistent braking power under intensive conditions. The B-M8’s four pads provide a significantly larger braking surface, improving performance and pad wear, while communicating increased “bite feel” to the driver. Manufactured in the same plant as the company’s racing brake systems, the B-M8 leverages Brembo’s 40 years in motorsports in an advanced road-going high performance caliper.

B-M8 and B-M4 with their innovative and exclusive design are the first members of a NEW FAMILY of calipers that will distinguish the new High Performance Brembo Kits among the other in the market moving the car where it will be fit to a new and clear identity.
